In Partnership with Novotel
There’s something magical about summer in Bondi. Maybe it’s the early risers walking their dogs, the surfers paddling out to gentle waves, or the cafes and bars overflowing with people hanging out and enjoying the sun.
But last Saturday and Sunday, Bondi’s usual charm was given an extra sprinkle of magic in the form of a giant bubble, stationed right in the centre of Campbell Parade.
Novotel, the global hotel brand synonymous with family-friendly fun, brought ‘It’s Simply Magic Here’, a two-day pop-up inspired by the recently released “Wicked” film and Glinda the Good Witch’s iconic bubble. And it couldn’t have been better timed.
In the last few weeks, the buzz surrounding “Wicked” has been impossible to miss. From extraordinary performances from stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, to the internet’s obsession with viral press tour memes, the film has become a global sensation. Novotel’s installation felt like the perfect way to turn all the excitement into something tangible.
From 9am to 6pm each day, people wandering past were invited to step inside the bubble and into another world. The huge transparent globe was complete with a fully styled hotel room, including playful nods to the ‘”Wicked” universe. There was green and pink bedding, Elphaba’s broomstick leaned casually in the corner, a copy of a Shiz University book held official artwork from the film on the bedside table, and Glinda’s wand and crown were placed on the bed.
Outside, Bondi Beach provided the perfect backdrop to bring Novotel into the Land of Oz. The hot, balmy weather had people gravitating towards the sand, but not before they stopped to explore and take photos of Glinda’s bubble.
Those who visited also had the chance to decorate their own Christmas ornament, taking home a little piece of the magic to hang on the tree. Kids perched on green and pink velvet stools next to the bubble, carefully drawing on the festive baubles. They could also enter to win a four-night Novotel stay including flights within Australia, $1000 in food and beverage credits, and double passes to see “Wicked” in cinemas.
As the weekend wrapped up, the bubble disappeared as mysteriously as it had arrived. All that was left to do was to head to the beach, put on the “Wicked” soundtrack, and start dreaming of your next adventure.
Missed out on the pop-up? You can still experience the magic with a stay at Novotel.
