Rick and Morty” has been renewed for two more seasons at Adult Swim, propelling television’s favorite mad scientist and grandson duo through Season 12.

As Season 8 is slated for 2025, and the Season 10 renewal was announced in 2023, the Season 12 greenlight pushes the Emmy-winning animated series through at least 2029.

The announcement was made by executive producers Dan Harmon and Scott Marder on Thursday at the “Rick and Morty” New York Comic Con panel, where they were joined by series regulars Harry Belden, Ian Cardoni, Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer and Chris Parnell.

The panel also previewed an animatic from an upcoming Season 8 episode set to premiere next year.

“From Season One, ‘Rick and Morty’ set a new standard in adult animation and has shown no signs of stopping,” stated Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim. “Dan, Scott and the rest of the immensely talented team behind ‘Rick and Morty’ are constantly outdoing themselves, and I’ll be joining the millions of fans around the world in looking forward to more adventures in the years to come.”

“Nobody wants a universe without Rick and Morty,” added Harmon. “Fortunately, the list of places to go remains infinite.”

Marder, who took on the role of showrunner in Season 5, said it’s “such a gift” to be renewed beyond the previously announced Season 10. “‘Rick and Morty’ – a hundred years – forever!,” he said in a statement.

“Rick and Morty” follows cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his timid grandson Morty Smith as they balance home life while embarking on bizarre interdimensional adventures on Rick’s flying saucer.

The series was created by Harmon and Justin Roiland, who also voiced both Rick and Morty until he was fired from the show in 2023 after he was charged with felony domestic battery and false imprisonment, and allegations surfaced regarding behavior toward minors on social media. All criminal charges against Roiland were later dropped due to insufficient evidence. It was announced in October 2023 that Ian Cardoni would take over as the voice of Rick, and Harry Belden would play Morty.
