Donald Trump is expected to leave for the Republican National Convention on Sunday.

Trump confirmed the news via his social media platform Truth Social. He wrote, “Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a “shooter,” or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else. Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled, at 3:30 P.M. TODAY. Thank you! DJT.”

Trump was struck in the ear by a bullet at a rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday, after a gunman opened fire outside the venue, the U.S. Secret Service said.

Previously, Trump described what happened to him and said, “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”

Following the shooting and assassination attempt, The Secret Service “neutralized” the shooter, who is dead, agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement. One person in the crowd was killed by the gunfire, and two were critically injured, Guglielmi added.

On Sunday, President Joe Biden addressed the nation and confirmed he had spoken with the former President. He said, “Last night, I spoke with Donald Trump,” Biden said from the White House. “I’m sincerely grateful that he’s doing well and recovering.” Biden added, “As I said last night, there is no place in America for this kind of violence or any violence for that matter. An assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a nation — everything. It’s not who we are as a nation. It’s not American and we cannot allow this to happen.”

Trump is expected to officially accept the nomination in a speech on Thursday.
