Australia, the land of sweeping plains and all-manner of lethal land and water-based creatures, will host a new as-yet-untitled shark film for Sony Pictures.
According to Deadline, which breaks the story, later confirmed by Variety, production will kick off this summer on the project, a thriller that Norwegian Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow, Violent Night) wrote to direct.
Adam McKay and Kevin Messick are producing through Hyperobject Industries (The Menu, Succession, Don’t Look Up, Winning Time).

The Insneider describes the film as a shark attack horror movie, though details remain under lock and key.
Last month, Variety exclusively reported that Dynevor and Bella Ramsey star in the new film “More Flames,” from McKay‘s Yellow Dot Studios and Climate Spring; the short marks the launch of the #FlipTheScript campaign aimed at changing the narrative around the climate crisis.
Dynevor enjoyed a global breakthrough playing the character Daphne Bridgerton in the first two seasons of Netflix series Bridgerton. A BAFTA nominee, Dynevor’s credits include 2023 thriller Fair Play, and TV series Dickensian and Younger. Her upcoming projects include Jan Komasa’s thriller “Anniversary,” and Neil Burger’s spy flick “Inheritance.”
Movie goers will be able to net several new shark attack movies, including the Lizzy Greene starring in “High Tide” and Sean Byrne directing “Dangerous Animals,” both of which are reportedly in the works.
