WAAPA Creates A Home For Entrepreneurs And Innovators

WAAPA Creates Home Entrepreneurs And Innovators

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) has always been a destination of choice for emerging creatives, as its Top 100 placing for the Performing Arts in the QS World University Rankings attests.

That reputation soars once again with the introduction of the Master of Creative Arts Entrepreneurship and Cultural Innovation in 2027 at the acclaimed new ECU City Campus.

A first-of-its-kind course in Australia, Master of Creative Arts Entrepreneurship and Cultural Innovation combines advanced theory with hands-on practice via industry collaborations, incubator-style learning and real-world projects.

It’s not just one degree but three – a triple threat, if you will – with a Graduate Certificate, Diploma or Master’s Degree.

“Australia’s creative and cultural industries (CCIs) contribute more than $67 billion and 600,000 jobs to the economy and continue to evolve rapidly,” says WAAPA Course Coordinator, Dr Jennifer Halton.

“CCIs are significant drivers of Australia’s research and innovation ecosystem. WAAPA’s new Masters program will empower the next generation of creative visionaries to play a vital role within this ecosystem, transforming emerging ideas into successful entrepreneurial projects and innovative ventures. Graduates of this program will shape and lead the Creative Industries of the future.”

The course also incorporates specialist pathways in Creative Producing, Creative Technologies and Social Innovation, building on the capabilities of artists, producers and creative changemakers and extending them into the dynamic creative economies they are becoming a part of.

“This suite of courses celebrates WAAPA’s move to ECU City Campus where ECU is part of an exciting and influential Creative Industries, Business, and Technology Precinct,” Dr Halton says.

Industry partnerships are also a central part of the program with students having consistent access to mentors, creative leaders and organisations from across the arts and cultural sectors.

“Students will benefit greatly from our co-location with arts, cultural and innovation partners in the Perth creative ecosystem, delivering industry-aligned projects in their Capstone unit,” Dr Halton explains. “The whole course will offer important opportunities to meet with and learn from Industry bodies, not only in WA, but nationally and globally.”

The Master of Creative Arts Entrepreneurship and Cultural Innovation has been custom designed to enable creative arts practitioners to go forth, lead and thrive in their chosen creative avenues.
