Comedians Nazeem Hussain and Urzila Carlson are starring in a new ABC comedy, “Separated at Birth.”

The series will premiere on Wednesday, November 11th, on ABC TV, with all six episodes available to stream on ABC iView.

The comedy was created and written by Hussain, who stars as Sameer, a paramedic whose wife asks for a divorce moments after the birth of their first child. Carlson plays Donna, his sharp-tongued best friend and colleague.

Per the synopsis, as Sameer deals with co-parenting, family expectations, and his own fears about fatherhood, he finds support from his “work wife,” Donna. She ends up living in his home after her dream home renovation turns into a disaster. The two paramedics lean on each other as Sameer learns to be a father and Donna is forced to rethink her fiercely independent approach to life. Both are watched closely by two feuding extended families.

The ensemble cast includes Sana’a Shaik, Nadie Kammallaweera, Leah Vandenberg, Jeeves Verma, Akhilesh Jain, Osamah Sami and Rodney Afif. Guest stars across the episodes will include Tom Sainsbury, Melanie Bracewell, Luke McGregor, Ryan Shelton, Bron Lewis, Sarah Michaels and Takashi Wakasugi.

“Separated at Birth”, produced by Princess Pictures, is set in Melbourne’s multicultural communities and centres on family, friendship, parenting and identity. The series combines family comedy and buddy sitcom, offering audiences a fresh and funny take on the stumbling journey towards adulthood.

Nazeem Hussain told VicScreen earlier this year: “This is a story I’ve wanted to tell for a long time – about family, identity and the chaos of loving people even when life doesn’t look the way you imagined.  And getting to make it with Urzila, one of my favourite people on the planet, feels like we’ve tricked the ABC into funding a very elaborate hang.”

Rachel Okine, ABC Head of Scripted, added: “We’re thrilled to bring this fresh, laugh out loud original comedy to ABC audiences, starring two of Australia’s favourite comedians. ‘Separated At Birth’ follows a man suddenly launched into the messy reality of becoming a parent and the collision of two big, complicated families. Add a delightfully chaotic colleague and housemate, and audiences are guaranteed to be in stitches.”

ABC’s “Separated at Birth” will premiere at 8:30pm on November 11th on ABC TV.
