Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz’s fourth “Mummy” adventure has a new title: “The Mummy: The Book of the Dead.”

Fraser and Weisz are reprising their roles as Rick and Evie O’Connell alongside a cast that includes John Hannah, Michael Johnston, Numan Acar, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr. Plot details haven’t been revealed. As previously announced, Universal is releasing the movie in theatres on Oct. 15, 2027.

The actors first shared the screen in 1999’s blockbuster hit “The Mummy,” which follows a treasure hunter who accidentally awakens a cursed Egyptian priest with supernatural powers. A reboot of one of Universal’s classic creature features, the movie spawned two sequels, 2001’s “The Mummy Returns” and 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” as well as the 2002 spinoff “The Scorpion King” with Dwayne Johnson. While Fraser starred in both “The Mummy Returns” and “Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” Weisz wasn’t in the third movie in the series.

Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who call themselves Radio Silence, are directing the fourth chapter in the decades-old action franchise, from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are best known for 2019’s “Ready or Not” and reviving the “Scream” franchise for Paramount in 2022, while Coggeshall’s credits include “The Family Plan” and “Orphan: First Kill.”

Sean Daniel will produce the fourquel, having worked on the last five films in the franchise, including 2017’s reboot with Tom Cruise. (That attempt to revive the property was a critical and commercial disaster, effectively ending the studio’s ambitions to craft an interconnected Dark Universe.)

Other producers include William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, and Clayton Townsend. Fraser and Hivemind’s Jason F. Brown will serve as executive producers on “The Mummy: The Book of the Dead.”
