Terminator 2: Judgment Day

“Terminator 2: Judgment Day” is returning to Australian and New Zealand cinemas.

STUDIOCANAL, Fathom Entertainment and Rialto Pictures today announced that James Cameron‘s Oscar-winning sci-fi action classic is set to return to cinemas in 4K and premium formats.

To mark the 35th anniversary, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” will open in US theatres on August 28, before arriving in ANZ cinemas on September 3.

Originally released in 1991, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” remains one of the highest-grossing and most influential films of all time.

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick, the film earned four Academy Awards and revolutionised action cinema with effects that still hold up to viewing over three decades later.

“In a future ruled by machines, young John Connor holds the key to humanity’s survival,” the synopsis, for anyone who still hasn’t seen the film, reads.

“When a reprogrammed Terminator is sent back in time to protect him, a new threat emerges: the T-1000, a terrifying next-generation assassin capable of becoming anyone, anywhere. No rules. No limits. No mercy.

“As Sarah Connor races to stop Judgment Day before it begins, the fate of humanity hangs by a thread.

“Winner of four Academy Awards, ‘T2’ delivers iconic action, legendary one-liners, and groundbreaking visual effects that changed cinema forever.”

Cameron, the film’s director, says, “‘T2’ was made for theatres, and coming back to the big screen is the absolute best way to see the film. I believe it’s safe to do spoilers after 35 years, so SPOILER ALERT: the good guys win against the AI superintelligence! And maybe that’s a message of hope we all could use this summer.”
