“Superman: Man of Tomorrow” is one step closer to soaring into theatres.
Writer and director James Gunn revealed on Threads that “Superman: Man of Tomorrow” has officially wrapped filming.
“That’s a wrap on principal photography for ‘Man of Tomorrow,’” Gunn wrote in his post, accompanied by two photographs with the crew. “Truly a joyful experience and I have immense gratitude to my cast and crew. First photo: [Nicholas Hoult] jumped in the lake after last shot. Second photo: The brain trust (except Brian) around video village during the whole shoot. They make making movies fun.”
“Superman: Man of Tomorrow” is the sequel to 2025’s “Superman,” with David Corenswet returning as the Man of Steel. In the sequel, Superman is forced to team up with his adversary Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) as they work to defeat an even bigger threat: the super-intelligent antagonist Brainiac (Lars Eidinger).
Rachel Brosnahan is back as Lois Lane. Other returning cast members include Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Milly Alcock, who had a cameo as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El, returns for “Man of Tomorrow” after headlining this summer’s DC tentpole “Supergirl.” The sequel will also introduce Aaron Pierre to the big screen as John Stewart, who is debuting in the HBO Max series “Lanterns.”
The showdown will hit theaters on July 9, 2027, but Gunn has kept fans up to date on social media in the meantime. He first indicated on Instagram on April 20 that filming had begun with a photo of a “Luther, A” badge, a chessboard and a bag of Ruffles chips. A few months later, on June 1, he unveiled a sneak peek of Luther’s war suit with the caption “Fit check. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow.”
