The Sydney “One Night Only” premiere took place last night (August 11).
The film’s leading man, Callum Turner, attended the premiere at Hoyts EQ, where he was joined by director-producer Will Gluck.

“One Night Only” is a modern rom-com about “searching for love on the least romantic night of the year.
Owen (Turner) and Allie (Monica Barbaro) are “two love-starved strangers who crash into each other in an ever-so-slightly fictionalised New York City on the one night of the year when single people are allowed to have sex,” according to the official logline.
“Recently dumped Owen and hopeful romantic Allie might be the only two singles in the city looking for more than just a quick encounter. They both feel a spark when they meet, but a series of missteps and side quests complicate their night, keeping them apart.
“As they each race toward and away from each other across the city, they just might discover that the one thing they want most is closer than they think.”

The cast also features Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”), Julia Fox (“Uncut Gems”), Ben Marshall (“SNL”) and more.
Gluck directed and produced the film, based on a script from Travis Braun. Gluck’s previous credits include “Easy A” (2010) and “Anyone But You” (2023), the latter of which was filmed in New South Wales in 2023.
Variety gave “One Night Only” a mixed review.
“At a time when Americans’ reproductive rights are very much under threat by the Trump administration, Owen and Allie’s will-they-won’t-they dance doesn’t play as escapist fantasy, but as a semi-absurdist projection of where we might all be headed,” the review concludes.
“And if so, it’s hard not to feel that Gluck’s film hasn’t just chosen a strange genre on which to map its story, but the wrong story altogether: surely the more satisfying, feel-good version of this oddly gutless film wouldn’t work toward a single couple’s happiness within the strictures of the mandate, but toward defeating the mandate altogether. That’s a lot to ask of a summer romcom, granted. But ‘One Night Only’ asks an awful lot of us.”
