“Only Murders in the Building” is back with Season 5, debuting Sept. 9, and Hulu has released a trailer showcasing the comedy’s new mystery — and its stacked cast.
The half-hour series stars Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez who team up as amateur investigators and true crime podcasters after a string of suspicious murders occur in their New York apartment complex.
In Season 5, the trio’s doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca) dies under mysterious circumstances, and Charles (Martin), Oliver (Short), and Mabel (Gomez) refuse to accept the results of the police report. “A guy fills a fountain with blood in the most murderous building in New York. They say it’s accidental?” Charles asks his crime-solving compatriots in the trailer.
Once again, they work together to uncover the true story of Lester’s death, plunging into the darkest corners of New York and beyond to reveal “a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters and the mysterious residents of the Arconia,” according to the logline. As they descend deeper into the mystery, they also notice a growing divide between the New York they thought they knew and the new New York evolving in front of their eyes, where the mob struggles to hold onto power as new, even more dangerous players emerge.
Season 5 of “Only Murders” boasts an impressive ensemble including Meryl Streep, Michael Cyril Creighton, Bobby Cannavale, Coluca, Beanie Feldstein, Jermaine Fowler, Keegan-Michael Key, Richard Kind, Nathan Lane, Téa Leoni, Logan Lerman, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Christoph Waltz, Dianne Wiest and Renée Zellweger. Past guest stars include Paul Rudd, Mel Brooks, Melissa McCarthy, Zach Galifianakis, Eugene Levy, Amy Schumer, Matthew Broderick, Molly Shannon and Eva Longoria.
Created by Martin and John Hoffman, “Only Murders in the Building” has become an awards magnet, scoring 56 Emmy nominations and 7 wins across its first four seasons.
