Jenny McCarthy has hosted talk shows, and she’s hosted podcasts. Now, she’s aiming to do both at the same time: Variety has learned that McCarthy is developing a daytime talk show/video podcast hybrid for the Warner Bros. TV Group-operated syndicated TV label Telepictures (“The Jennifer Hudson Show,” “Extra”).
The McCarthy series is being developed as 170 half-hour episodes, to be produced in the style of a video podcast but pitched to market as a daytime talk show. The daytime talker/podcast hybrid would feature McCarthy sharing celebrity gossip, sharing advice, telling stories and talking to celebrity guests, experts, everyday people and viewer call ins. Episodes will center on a daily theme cued to something McCarthy is passionate about, while segments will also focus on human interest stories, viral trends, and self-help/beauty/wellness.
Also part of the pitch: McCarthy’s husband, “Boston Blue” star Donnie Wahlberg, will appear in recurring segments.
Telepictures will produce the show, while McCarthy is on board as an executive producer.
McCarthy is no stranger to daytime; she spent a year as a co-host on ABC’s “The View” from 2013 to 2014; before that, she also hosted the pop culture talker “The Jenny McCarthy Show” on VH1. And in the radio/podcast world, she hosted a daily SiriusXM series, also called “The Jenny McCarthy Show,” for six years.
McCarthy helps co-host the annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” with Ryan Seacrest and also has been a host of the American Music Awards. Of course, right now she may be best known as a judge and star of Fox’s megahit celebrity singing competition “The Masked Singer,” which she’s been a part of since its 2019 premiere (where she’s billed as “Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg“).
Her lengthy list of TV credits also include “Singled Out,” “Jenny,” “The Drew Carey Show,” “Less Than Perfect,” “The Bad Girl’s Guide” and “Two and a Half Men.” McCarthy and hubby Wahlberg appeared as themselves on “Wahlburgers” and “Donnie Loves Jenny” (which she also executive produced).
