Netflix has announced that “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega will visit Sydney as part of the global Doom Tour to promote the show’s upcoming second season.
The American actress will be joined by “Wednesday” director Tim Burton, co-star Emma Myers (“A Minecraft Movie”) and co-showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar for an event at Cockatoo Island on Aug. 16.
The appearance follows the premiere of Part 1 of Season 2 on Aug. 6, with Part 2 set to debut Sept. 3. Fans can register for tickets to the Sydney event beginning July 23.
Australia’s event comes after Doom Tour stops across Europe, the U.S., Canada and South Korea, as Netflix ramps up global promotion.
“This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore,” Gough and Millar told Tudum.
Millar added: “Nothing is what it seems in Season 2.”
“Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore,” he continued. “It’s the first time she’s returned to a school willingly. But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she’s expecting. She thinks she’s going to be in control, that she knows where all the bodies are buried — and she doesn’t.”
New series regulars for Season 2 include Steve Buscemi (“The Big Lebowski”), Billie Piper (“Scoop”), Evie Templeton (“Return to Silent Hill”), Owen Painter (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Noah Taylor (“Park Avenue”).
Christopher Lloyd (“The Addams Family”), Joanna Lumley (“Absolutely Fabulous”), Thandiwe Newton (“Westworld”), Frances O’Connor (“The Twelve”), Haley Joel Osment (“Somebody I Used to Know”), Heather Matarazzo (“The Princess Diaries”) and Joonas Suotamo (“The Acolyte”) will appear as guest stars. Lady Gaga also joins the season in a mystery role.
Ortega’s breakout performance as Wednesday led to a surge in popularity — one she said she struggled with in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
“To be quite frank, after the show and trying to figure everything out, I was an unhappy person,” Ortega said. “After the pressure, the attention — as somebody who’s quite introverted, that was so intense and so scary.”
