“Heated Rivalry” has been renewed for a second season.
The romantic drama series was created by Jacob Tierney for Crave, the Canadian streaming service owned by Bell Media, and was also released on HBO Max in Australia and U.S. HBO Max will continue to license the series for its second season without producing.
Based on the Game Changers” book series by Rachel Reid, “Heated Rivalry” follows Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), who, per the official logline, “are two of the biggest stars in Major League Hockey, bound by ambition, rivalry and a magnetic pull neither of them fully understands. What begins as a secret fling between two fresh-faced rookies evolves into a years-long journey of love, denial and self-discovery. Over the next eight years, the pair chase glory on the ice while struggling to navigate their feelings off it. Torn between the sport they live for and the love they can’t ignore, Shane and Ilya must decide if there is room in their fiercely competitive world for something as fragile and as powerful as real love.” Along with Williams and Storrie, the cast includes François Arnaud, Robbie G.K., Christina Chang, Dylan Walsh, Sophie Nélisse and Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova.
“Heated Rivalry” debuted on Nov. 28 with two episodes, with additional episodes releasing weekly until the Season 1 finale on Dec. 26.
Tierney writes and directs the series, and serves as executive producer alongside Brendan Brady. Reid serves as consulting producer, and Lori Fischburg is a producer. Accent Aigu Entertainment produces in association with Crave. Sphere Abacus, in which Bell Media acquired a majority stake earlier this year, is the international distributor.
