Today, Amazon’s dedicated Prime Video streaming service has announced that another subscription is now available as an add-on to your Prime Video account: HBO Max. Having only launched as an independent service in March of this year, HBO Max is the home of the titular US-based Warner Bros Discovery content suite.
The new add-on is available on all Prime Video accounts at two prices. The Basic, ad-included plan is available for $11.99 AUD a month, or you can upgrade to ad-free streaming for $15.99 AUD a month. Not available in add-on form is HBO Max’s independent pricing tier of Premium, which knocks the price up to $21.99 AUD a month in trade for 4K visuals and Dolby Atmos audio. You’ll have to get a separate subscription for that.
This is one of 25+ additional subscriptions available on Prime Video, with Apple TV+, Paramount+, Hayu, Crunchyroll, Britbox and Shudder all also available as an addition to your existing Prime Video subscription, and key for those frustrated by cluttered streaming services, all within the one app on your device.
HBO Max is home to HBO Originals, including “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” “Succession” and “House of the Dragon,” as well as highly anticipated upcoming series like “Task,” “IT: Welcome to Derry” and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” Subscribers will also have access to streaming-centric Max Originals like “The Pitt,” “And Just Like That…” and “Peacemaker,” which is currently in the midst of its second season.
On the franchise and classics front, you’ll also be able to find global favourites such as “Friends” and “The Big Bang Theory,” and Warner Bros. blockbuster films including “Minecraft,” “Sinners,” Harry Potter and the DC Universe.

“Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming – including Amazon MGM Studios Originals – and encompassing original series and movies, licensed content and live sports, the ability to rent or buy thousands of new and popular movies and add-on subscriptions,” said Daniel Slepak, head of marketplace Prime Video Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
“Partnering with Prime Video is a natural next step for HBO Max in Australia,” said Michael Brooks, Managing Director Warner Bros. Discovery Australia and New Zealand. “After a successful launch only five months ago, our stellar library of global brands and premium content continues to resonate in this market, and this partnership with Prime Video allows us to bring that offering to even more Australians.”
