“Gruen” returns with a fresh look at election advertising.
ABC has announced that “Gruen Nation” and “Gruen” will return back-to-back from Wednesday, April 30, at 8pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
With election season underway, political advertising is ramping up, and “Gruen Nation” will take a closer look at how campaigns are designed to persuade, influence, and capture voter attention.
Across two episodes, the program will analyse the storytelling techniques, visual cues, and marketing tactics used by politicians and their teams. The synopsis describes it as taking “a big swing at the election, showing you how the democracy sausage is made – all the sizzle and none of the meat.”
Hosted by Wil Anderson alongside a panel of election advertising experts, the series aims to break down the strategies that put publicity over policy and marketing over messaging. It will also explore how election campaigns are tailored for different demographics and platforms. The synopsis hints at a sharp, humorous approach, stating the program will deliver “voting without preferences and analysis that would make Antony green with envy.”
Following the two-part election special, “Gruen” returns for its 17th season on Wednesday, May 14, with ten new episodes.
Advertising is evolving, becoming more targeted, omnipresent, and data-driven. “Gruen” will once again dissect the latest trends in branding, consumer influence, and marketing psychology. Wil Anderson will be joined by regular panellists Russel Howcroft, Todd Sampson, Christina Aventi, Karen Ferry, Dee Madigan, Camey O’Keefe, and Lauren Zonfrillo, along with additional guest contributors.
The synopsis teases that viewers can expect “a hilarious and alarming look into the world of advertising” at the new 8pm timeslot, promising insight into an industry that continues to shape modern life.
