Kelly Osbourne is mourning the loss of her father Ozzy following his death on Tuesday, referencing lyrics from Black Sabbath’s “Changes.”
Osbourne posted the brief message to her Instagram stories on Thursday afternoon. “I feel unhappy I am so sad,” she wrote. “I lost the best friend I ever had.”
The lyrics for “Changes” were originally written by Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, and the song appeared on the group’s 1972 album “Vol. 4.” In 2003, Ozzy and Kelly released a duet version of the song as a single. The song’s original lyrics are: “I feel unhappy, I feel so sad / I’ve lost the best friend that I ever had.”
Following news of his death at 76 on Tuesday, the Osbourne family issued a statement confirming his passing. “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.”
Osbourne had been dealing with chronic illness over the past few years. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in January 2020, and in early 2023 announced that he had retired from touring, citing spinal injuries he had sustained in a 2018 accident.
In early July, Osbourne staged his farewell show with performances from some of his favorite groups, including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses and Alice in Chains. Each act performed covers of songs by Osbourne and Black Sabbath, who reunited at the show to play four songs including “War Pigs,” “N.I.B.,” “Iron Man” and “Paranoid.” Osbourne himself performed a solo set while sitting on a throne.
Before his farewell show, Osbourne affirmed to the Guardian that it would be his final performance. “I’d love to say ‘never say never’, but after the last six years or so … it is time. I don’t want to die in a hotel room somewhere. I want to spend the rest of my life with my family.”

Osbourne had been working on a new memoir entitled “Last Rites,” releasing on October 6 via Hachette Book Group. It’s unclear if the memoir was finished, as he had planned to include his thoughts about his farewell show.
