Kamala Harris will be a guest on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Thursday night.

The former vice president’s visit to the show, which is being billed as her “first interview since 2024 election,” comes on the heels of CBS cancelling “The Late Show” after next season. The network cited a “financial decision” when the news was announced July 17.

Earlier Thursday, Harris announced that she will publish, “107 Days,” a memoir for Simon & Schuster that recounts the roller coaster ride of her 2024 presidential campaign.

The book will be released on Sept. 23.

“What the world saw on the campaign trail was only part of the story,” Harris wrote, in part, on X and Instagram Thursday morning. “My new book is a behind-the-scenes look at my experience leading the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.”

In video accompanying the announcement, Harris says, “Just over a year ago, I launched my campaign for president of the United States. 107 days traveling the country, fighting for our future, the shortest presidential campaign in modern history. It was intense, high stakes and deeply personal for me and for so many of you.”

She goes onto say, “With candor and reflection, I’ve written a behind the scenes account of that journey. I believe there’s value in sharing what I saw, what I learned, and what I know it will take to move forward. In writing this book, one truth kept coming back to me — sometimes the fight takes a while. But I remain full of hope, and I remain clear eyed. I will never stop fighting to make our country reflect the very best of its ideals, always on behalf of the people.”

Harris navigated an unprecedented and truncated presidential campaign that was assembled in the chaotic rush of events that wound up pressuring Joe Biden into reversing his decision to run for re-election in 2024. Harris had to parachute into the race against Donald Trump in mid-July, following the assassination attempt against her Republican opponent who ultimately prevailed at the polls last year.

“Kamala Harris is a singular American leader,” Simon & Schuster CEO Jonathan Karp said in statement Thursday “’107 Days’ captures the drama of running for president better than just about anything I’ve read. It’s one of the best works of political nonfiction Simon & Schuster has ever published. It’s an eyewitness contribution to history and an extraordinary story.”

News of Harris’ memoir comes a day after she formally bowed out of the California governor’s race. There has been speculation for months that the former Democratic presidential candidate would make a run next year to succeed Gavin Newsom in Sacramento. On Wednesday, Harris released a lengthy statement acknowledging that she gave serious consideration to a gubernatorial bid.

“I have extraordinary admiration and respect for those who dedicate their lives to public service — service to their communities and to our nation. At the same time, we must recognize that our politics, our government and our institutions have too often failed the American people, culminating in this moment of crisis. As we look ahead, we must be willing to pursue change through new methods and fresh thinking — committed to our same values and principles, but not bound by the same playbook,” Harris wrote.

In the late 1990s, Harris emerged from her native California as a history-making political figure. In 2020, following the election of Biden, Harris became the first female vice president, as well as the first Black woman and South Asian woman to serve as VP. Before that, Harris served as a U.S. senator and as the district attorney of San Francisco.
