Beyoncé has landed an Emmy nomination.
She was nominated in the outstanding directing for a variety special category for “Beyoncé Bowl.” The Netflix special landed a total of three nominations including outstanding variety special (Live). Co-directors of photography Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki and Bruno Delbonnel, prosthetics makeup artist Barrie Gower, and songwriter Nicholas Britell were among the industry heavyweights who led the Creative Arts Emmy nominations on Tuesday morning.
Alfonso Cuaron’s go-to cinematographers Delbonnel and Lubezki were recognized for their work on the AppleTV+ limited series “Disclaimer.” Britell scored a nomination for writing “We are the Ghor” (Planetary Anthem) from Disney+’s “Andor.”
Cinematographers behind the oner trend this season were also nominated. Netflix’s four-part limited series “Adolescence” uses one continuous shot per episode to create intense emotion as it follows 13-year-old schoolboy Jamie Miller, played by newcomer Owen Cooper, who is arrested on the suspicion of murdering his classmate. Cinematographer Matthew Lewis worked with Philip Barantini to deliver the director’s signature one-shot style throughout the four episodes.
On “The Studio” episode 2, titled “The Oner,” cinematographer Adam Newport-Berra walked with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg with script in hand to get the beats of how they would shoot it. “We would go to these locations and walk through it with an iPhone, the script, and just see how it timed out,” Newport-Berra said.
“Bridgerton” costume designer John Glaser landed a nod in the outstanding period costumes category. Glaser was also nominated earlier this year by the Costume Designers Guild. This past season, Nicola Coughlan’s silhouette evolved. As Lady Penelope Whistledown, there was a shift from the classic Regency style to a bit later in the period, toward 1820. Glaser told Variety that her shift in wardrobe allowed viewers to see that she’s taken control of her life, no longer following the gaudy colors and costumes her mother forced upon her in previous seasons.
“Severance” landed 27 nominations, including outstanding production design and outstanding editing. Production designer Jeremy Hindle was nominated for his sets. “Woe’s Hollow” (episode 4) was his most challenging episode of the season, because they shot all the exteriors on location. Hindle spent around 20 days hiking with scouts in upstate New York at different elevations, ultimately deciding on locations like Awosting Falls for the waterfall-set climax and the Minnewaska State Park Preserve for the tent and trekking scenes.

President Barack Obama was also nominated for “Our Oceans” in the outstanding narrator category. He was nominated alongside Sir David Attenborough, Idris Elba, Tom Hanks and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
