Rebel Wilson has found her “Girl Group.”
After auditioning thousands of hopefuls across the U.S., Wilson has revealed the seven newcomers who will make up the titular pop band, Xplode, in her upcoming comedy: Ana Yi Puig (Gainesville, Fla.), Bailey Stender (Duluth, Minn.), Chabely Ponce (Miami, Fla.), Daniela Cuoso (Miami, Fla.), Lilah Pate (Wilmington, N.C.), Mia Kaplan (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Miracle Washington (North Augusta, S.C.).
“It was so fun to unearth such amazing talent in the U.S.,” Wilson said. “They’re all quadruple threats in this movie in that they sing, dance, act and have to be funny. I’m proud of them and can’t wait for audiences to see their brilliant work!”
“Girl Group,” which Wilson is writing, directing and starring in for Live Nation Studios and Future Artists Entertainment, just wrapped production in the U.K. The heartfelt comedy follows a pop diva, played by Wilson, “who gets kicked out of her own girl group and seizes the chance to stage a comeback by coaching a group of misfit teen girls for a major record label audition,” according to the film’s synopsis.
The ensemble cast also includes Jennifer Coolidge, Nicole Scherzinger, Randall Park, Sheridan Smith, Jamie Lee O’Donnell, Guz Khan, Jolene and Loren Gray, as well as Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts, Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm and All Saints’ Shaznay Lewis, who will form girlband Girlfriends alongside Wilson’s character.
“Girl Group” is produced by Wilson under her Camp Sugar banner, alongside Matt Williams of Future Artists Entertainment and executive produced by Live Nation Studios. Chris Scott (“Wicked”) serves as choreographer.
