Comedian Nikki Glaser is joining the Judd Apatow Cinematic Universe. She’s set to star in, write and produce a new film that Apatow will produce for Universal Pictures.
Plot details haven’t been revealed. Described as a “modern, edgy romantic comedy,” Glaser will co-write the untitled movie with Sean O’Connor, who wrote for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, which was hosted by Glaser.
Apatow is known for shepherding rising talent like Amy Schumer, Jonah Hill, Kumail Nanjiani and Pete Davidson and has directed major comedies like “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Knocked Up,” “Funny People,” “This is 40,” “Trainwreck” and “The King of Staten Island.” As a producer, he’s backed funny films including “Bridesmaids,” “The Big Sick,” “Superbad,” “Bros” and “Anchorman.” Apatow is currently working with Glen Powell on another untitled comedy for Universal.
Apatow and Josh Church will produce through their longstanding Apatow Productions overall deal with Universal. Universal’s senior executive VP of production development Erik Baiers will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.
Known for her raunchy, no-holds barred comedy, Glaser’s career skyrocketed after her standout performance on Netflix’s roast of Tom Brady. She was recently the first woman to independently host the Golden Globes and will return for the 83rd edition in January 2026.
Glaser’s film and television credits include “Trainwreck” and “Inside Amy Schumer.” She hosted the HBO reality dating series “FBoy Island” for three seasons as well as the female spinoff “Lovers and Liars.” Glaser, whose recent stand-up specials include “Good Clean Filth” and “Someday You’ll Die,” is about to tape her newest hour of comedy for Hulu, set for 2026. She’s also co-writing, producing and starring in the “Sliding Doors”-style comedy “Mash” for Paramount Pictures.
