Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson star in the second trailer for “Song Sung Blue.”
The Hollywood actors play Lighting & Thunder, a Neil Diamond cover duo, in the upcoming film.
The second trailer offers a closer look at the inspired-by-real-life love story of Mike and Claire Sardina, who performed as Lightning & Thunder.
The clip is set to Diamond’s classic song “Sweet Caroline,” with Jackman’s Mike saying, “I’m not a songwriter, I’m not a sex symbol. But I am an entertainer.” Hudson’s Claire then comes in with her own take: “I don’t want to be a hairdresser, I wanna sing and dance and say, ‘Look at me I made it.’”
The trailer shows the pair meeting after one of Claire’s gigs, where they proceed to joke about Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn.
They soon decide to form a Diamond cover band. “We should call ourselves Lighting & Thunder,” says Mike at one point, before Claire leans in for a kiss. “That’s not very professional of me, but I’ve been wanting to do it for a while,” she admits, before Jackman pulls her back in.

The duo create a “Neil Diamond experience,” even managing to book a support slot for Pearl Jam. But a car crash derails their plans. “Everything is still really scary, but if you’re there with me, we can be Lightning & Thunder,” says Hudson in a wheelchair in a later scene. “I am not afraid anymore!”
“Song Sung Blue” is set to hit cinemas on December 25. The film also starts Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, Hudson Hensley and Jim Belushi. Craig Brewer, who directed “Hustle & Flow” and “Black Snake Moan,” wrote and directed the film based on a 2008 documentary about the real-life couple that inspired the story.
Producing alongside Brewer are John Davis and John Fox for Davis Entertainment. Erika Hampson and Greg Kohs are executive producing the project.
