The first images from Kate Winslet’s directorial debut “Goodbye June” have been revealed. The film will release in select theaters on Dec. 12, and will premiere on Netflix on Dec. 24.

The film centers around a family during the holiday season, when their mother’s health thrusts the four adult siblings and their father together as they attempt to manage and navigate their family dynamic. When the fear of potential loss hits the household, their mother, June, decides to orchestrate her own decline on her own terms, bringing the family closer together through humor and blunt honesty.

Winslet stars as Julia, one of June’s children, with Helen Mirren playing June, the matriarch of the family.

“Goodbye June” stars Winslet, Toni Collette (“Hereditary,” “Knives Out”), Johnny Flynn (“Emma,” “Ripley”), Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie, “Lee,) Timothy Spall (“Mr. Turner, “Harry Potter”) and Mirren (“The Thursday Murder Club,” “The Queen.”).

Additional cast members for “Goodbye June” include Stephen Merchant (“Jojo Rabbit, “Logan”) Fisayo Akinade (“Heartstopper,” “The Girl With All The Gifts”) Jeremy Swift (“Ted Lasso,” “Downton Abbey”) and Raza Jaffrey (“Code Black, “Homeland”).

The script is written by Joe Anders, who is Winslet’s son. In an interview with Deadline, Winslet explained that the idea of someone other than her directing her son’s script felt as if she “had been stabbed in the gut.”

Winslet continued, “I think it just feels great to have directed my first film in the 50th year of my life as a woman. It feels good, it feels good.”
