Helen Mirren to Receive Cecil B. DeMille Award at Golden Globes’ ‘Golden Eve’ Special

Helen Mirren

Dame Helen Mirren will be honored with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award during the new primetime special “Golden Eve,” which airs Thursday, Jan. 8, prior to the Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 11.

The special honoring the three-time Golden Globe winner and Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

Mirren is the latest in a line of legendary recipients of the DeMille Award, which has celebrated the lifetime achievements of Hollywood’s most iconic figures since its inception in 1952. The award presentation will headline “Golden Eve,” a reimagined special that also honors the Carol Burnett Award recipient, still to be announced, and kicks off the festivities leading up to the 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards.

“Helen Mirren is a force of nature, and her career is nothing short of extraordinary,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft continue to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike. It is a profound honor to present her with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.”

Mirren’s prolific career spans more than six decades across film, television and stage. She earned Golden Globe Awards for her role in Stephen Frears’ “The Queen,” portraying Queen Elizabeth II, and for her TV roles in “Elizabeth I” and “Losing Chase.” Mirren is one of the few performers to achieve the Triple Crown of acting: winning an Academy Award, an Emmy Award and a Tony Award. In 2003, she was appointed Dame of the British Empire for her contributions to the arts.

“Golden Eve” expands upon last year’s successful “Golden Gala,” which honored Viola Davis and Ted Danson. The 2026 special promises a more immersive and celebratory experience, including curated retrospectives, rare archival footage and personal tributes from friends, collaborators and industry peers. The broadcast will serve as a major tentpole in Golden Week, a new initiative by Paramount and Dick Clark Productions that rolls out programming and events across platforms in the days leading up to the main Golden Globes ceremony.

The DeMille Award, named after pioneering filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, has honored 69 of the industry’s most enduring talents, including Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Oprah Winfrey, Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier and Barbra Streisand. The Carol Burnett Award, established in 2019 to recognize outstanding contributions to television, will also be presented during the “Golden Eve” broadcast. This year’s Burnett Award recipient has not yet been announced.

The 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by comedian and actress Nikki Glaser, will be among the first major award shows of the 2026 season and continue the Globes’ tradition of honoring the best in film, television and, for the first time, podcasting. Some of the year’s top contenders include Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” Chloé Zhao’s “Hamnet,” Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” and more.
