“Beef” is officially moving forward with a second season at Netflix, with Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny set to star.
It had long been rumored that a second season of the series was moving forward but nothing had been officially confirmed until now. The official logline for the new season states, “A young couple witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner.”
The season will consist of eight 30-minute episodes. Lee Sung Jin returns as creator, showrunner, and executive producer. Steven Yeun, Ali Wong, and Jake Schreier also executive produce. A24 is the studio.
The first season of “Beef” starred Wong and Yeun as two people involved in a road rage incident that quickly escalates and disrupts both of their lives. The series debuted to critical acclaim in 2023. It won eight Emmy Awards, including best limited or anthology series.
Isaac’s most recent TV role was playing the lead in the Marvel-Disney+ series “Moon Knight,” while he has also starred in shows like “Scenes From a Marriage” with Jessica Chastain and the miniseries “Show Me a Hero,” both of which were at HBO. Isaac earned an Emmy nod for his work in former series. He is also known for his roles in films like the new “Star Wars” trilogy, the first of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” films, and “Ex Machina.” He and Mulligan previously appeared together in the Cohen brothers film “Inside Llewyn Davis.”
Mulligan is a three-time Oscar nominee — one for “Maestro,” another for “Promising Young Woman,” and finally for “An Education,” all of which were in the best actress category. She received Golden Globe nominations for those three films in addition to one for her work in the film “She Said.” Her other film credits include “Pride & Prejudice” and “Never Let me Go.” She has also starred in shows like the Netflix series “Collateral” as well as the British drama series “Bleak House” among others.
Melton earned critical acclaim for his role in the feature “May December,” starring opposite Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman. He earned numerous awards and nominations for that film, including a Golden Globe nod. He has also been seen in films like “Bad Boys for Life” and “Heart of Champions,” while his TV credits include “Riverdale,” “American Horror Story,” and “Poker Face.”
Spaeny most recently starred in the hit film “Alien: Romulus,” which is part of the blockbuster “Alien” franchise. She has likewise been in films like “Civil War” and played the title role in Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla.” She also has a role in the upcoming third film of the “Knives Out” franchise, “Wake Up, Dead Man.” In television, Spaeny has been seen in the shows “Mare of Easttown,” “Devs,” and “The First Lady.”
