Mark Hamill, Kathy Griffin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and More Hollywood Reactions to President Biden’s Decision to Drop Out: ‘He Restored Honesty’

President Biden’s decision to step down from the 2024 presidential campaign has elicited a wave of support from Hollywood. Familiar faces from Biden’s campaign trail resurfaced to show their agreement with the President’s decision and reinforce their support of the Democratic party.

Many were exceedingly vocal about their desire for him to step aside and let a younger candidate take over, including the host of “Pod Save America,” Jon Favreau, who recently called out Biden’s decision to white-knuckle it through the campaign with Jon Stewart. 

After Biden made his announcement, former Obama speechwriter Favreau posted that the act was “courageous and selfless.”

“The President did what he’s done for the last four years – he listened to the American people and put the country’s interests ahead of his own.”

Actor, singer and director Barbra Streisand called Biden “a man who accomplished significant achievements” and wrote that we should be grateful for his upholding of our democracy.

Meanwhile, Cher has a couple of unorthodox ideas for the new ticket. Writing that she was “tortured” by the news, Cher posted, “Because I Don’t believe the Democrats can win the Presidency with ‘Pres Biden’ ‘Joe’ whom I’ve loved since we met in 2008. I campaigned for him I believe it’s time to pass the baton, time for dems to think ‘way’ outside the box. Maybe even a split ticket.”

Oscar-winner and Billie Eilish’s brother and song-writing collaborator Finneas posted a photo of his family standing with the President and wrote, “I see a person putting the people before themselves and their pride today, and for that, I have an enormous amount of respect.”

“Star Wars” actor and voice of The Joker Mark Hamill was fast to offer what the American people should do next. “Joe Biden has a record of accomplishments unmatched by any president in our lifetime. Kathy Griffin, who received copious backlash for many tweets and photo shoots deemed threatening to former President Trump, posted, “Let’s make history!!!! Finally”

“Abbott Elementary” actor Sheryl Lee Ralph posted a photo of the duo together to celebrate Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Former talk show host, comedian and actor Rosie O’Donnell posted Biden’s full letter on her Instagram account with the comment “thank u joe biden – lets goooooo !!!!!”

Actor Yvette Nicole Brown reinforced the need to support the Democratic ticket, writing, “Only the name on the top of our ticket has” changed.
