It’s official: “Inside Out 2” is the highest-grossing animated film of all-time in Australia.

The latest in Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out” franchise has been going gangbusters since its June 13 release in Australian cinemas, emulating its global box office success.

According to newly-issued Numero data, the film has raked-in A$52.35 million at the Australian box office, eclipsing 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (with A$51.77 million) as the all-time top-grossing animated film in these parts.

“It’s a joyous honour for ‘Inside Out 2’ to take top spot in charts locally and globally. Disney now holds six of the top 10 animated titles ever released in Australia,” comments Kylie Watson-Wheeler, The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand senior vice president and managing director.

“The touching story is a must-watch for families,” adds Watson-Wheeler, “as it strikes a powerful chord with generations of Pixar fans who carry a deep affinity for the studio’s storytelling.”

Disney last held top spot on that particular leaderboard with 1994’s “The Lion King”.

As previously reported, “Inside Out” is the highest-grossing animated film of them all at the global box office, besting “Frozen 2.”

After six weeks of release, “Inside Out 2” had generated $601 million domestically and $861 million internationally, for a global total of $1.46 billion — overtaking “Barbie” ($1.446 billion) as the 13th-biggest movie of all time.

The records have tumbled for the family film, including bragging rights as the fastest animated film to cross the $1 billion benchmark (19 days), the highest-grossing movie of 2024 to date, and the only one this year to join the billion-dollar club.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” is off to a super start.

Since opening last week, the Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman tag-team has accumulated US$444.3 million globally, including a better-than-expected tally of US$211 million in the U.S. — good enough for the sixth-biggest opening of all time.

All that in just three days.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is also off to a flyer domestically, according to Disney, as it bags a franchise record in Australia, and the 10th highest opening weekend of all time. Its opening weekend is said to be the year’s best.
