Keke Palmer and SZA’s R-Rated Buddy Comedy Gets 2025 Release Date
Keke Palmer and SZA‘s highly-anticipated team-up movie is coming to theatres next January.
The TriStar Pictures movie — produced by Issa Rae‘s Hoorae, written by Syreeta Singleton and directed by Lawrence Lamont — will get a theatrical release on January 24, 2025.
The title for the R-rated comedy and other plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the supporting cast includes Lil Rel Howery, Janelle James, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Maude Apatow, Katt Williams, Joshua Neal, Aziza Scott, Patrick Cage and Amin Joseph.
Last month, Variety exclusively announced the additions of Dewayne Perkins, Joseph, Gabrielle Dennis and DomiNque Perry to round out the cast.
The film began from the CoCre lab at Sony Pictures, a previous pact between ColorCreative and Sony Pictures to source and incubate emerging, diverse screenwriters to develop and write their first studio feature based on original ideas.
Moreover, the entire project has developed based on mutual connections. Singleton and Lamont are alumni of the Rae-created series “Rap Sh!t,” for which Singleton served as showrunner and Lamont directed several episodes. Palmer and SZA first teamed up for “Saturday Night Live” in December 2022, when Palmer hosted and SZA was the musical guest. SZA makes her acting debut with the movie.
The project is produced by Hoorae’s Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi, ColorCreative’s Deniese Davis and Macro Film Studios’ Charles D. King, James Lopez and Poppy Hanks. Singleton is co-producing.
In addition to starring in the film, Palmer will executive produce for her Big Boss banner, alongside Sharon Palmer. Macro Film Studios is also co-financing the project.
