From chilling at the beach to warm evening picnic to chic rooftop bars, summer is the perfect platform to debut a hot new look. If you’re using the new year as an opportunity to revamp your wardrobe and elevate your style, we’ve partnered with Sportsgirl to curate a list of the top 10 fashion trends from Hollywood that you can incorporate into your new summer look and find the perfect dress to match.

Totally Tailored

Barbie at Bondi Icebergs

From red carpets to street style, we’ve seen a massive number of celebs hop on the tailoring trend – look no further than Greta Gerwig and Billie Eilish for your tailoring inspo. Hot off the catwalks, tailoring arose as a response to the pandemic times of us wearing sweatpants and leggings. Now, it’s filtered down from suits and blazers to tailoring-inspired accents that makes it very wearable in your day-to-day wardrobe.

Incorporating tailoring into less traditional pieces like dresses keeps the look from going to ‘office wear’ and embracing unexpected fabrics like denim or linen will make the trend easy to adapt for any season. Oversized silhouettes are also massive right now, and this lends itself to tailored pieces really well, helping you beat the heat and still stay on trend.

The Summer of Strapless

Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie on the Barbie red carpet

Get those shoulders ready – 2024 is all about going strapless. From Margot Robbie to Dua Lipa, Ayo Edebiri to Gillian Anderson, Hollywood has been obsessed with a strapless red carpet moment.

The best thing about incorporating a strapless dress into your summer staple wardrobe is how easy they are to style for any occasion. Brunch with the girls? Pair it back with a tote and some sandals. Heading out for the night? A pair of heels and some statement jewels will take it from casual sundress to evening stunner. We love a hardworking garment!

Texture, texture, texture

Crack out the knitting needles because texture is back. Whether you’re going lace or crochet, it’s all about texture. Check out Sarah Snook’s winning Golden Globe look for inspo – lace, knit or crochet can provide you with a bit of a peak-a-boo skin moment, as well as bringing a bit of a statement to your summer wardrobe.

Plus, there’s just something about a crochet summer dress that feels instantly rockstar. Chuck on some big sunnies and an oversized hat and you’re instantly sun smart and super chic.

Nailing Nostalgia

Barbie

If Margot Robbie’s entire press wardrobe following “Barbie” had you feeling nostalgic, we’ve got good news for you. 90s and Y2K nostalgia is back in a big way and while it may not be as good as having someone recreate your Barbie’s entire wardrobe for you, it’s still really fun to take a trip down memory lane.

The perfect 90s/y2k inspo can be found in gorgeous mesh dresses, paired with body glitter of course, and clear heels. It’s giving end of year dance, my parents are picking me up at 10pm and I’ve got to text them on my Motorola Razr. Bliss.

Far From Mid

Hemlines were hitting the carpet at this year’s award shows, with full gowns and maxi-skirts back in a big way. Dresses and skirts have been creeping longer and longer for a while now, but the trend is at full peak in 2024 and ready for you to incorporate it into your wardrobe.

Midi and maxi lengths are great for capturing that effortless summer energy we all aspire to and working with other trends like texture and nostalgia dressing. Whether you want to keep it low key with a casual button down silhouette or go bold with sheer fabric, either way you’ll be bang on trend.

Calling All Girly Girls

Taylor Swift and Beyoncé

Floral lovers rejoice – girly girl dressing is back. If Margot’s Barbie wardrobe wasn’t enough for you, the sheer force of Taylor Swift’s tour wardrobe or the drool-worthy wardrobes of “Emily in Paris” or even the “Bridgerton” effect are all key inspo points.

It’s about florals, it’s about sleeves with drama, and, of course, it’s about pink. Perfect for summer, girly dressing is about feeling the fantasy and letting go with your fashion choices. Trust us and try on the pink mini – you’ll love it.

Quiet Luxury

Quiet luxury has been a big Hollywood trend for the last few months, seen best in Succession. It’s about knowing your worth and not having to yell it from the rooftops, it’s about Jennifer Lawrence’s understated street style and Zoë Kravitz looking effortlessly chic without any obvious branding.

While we may not all be earning the same as Hollywood A-listers are, we can all still steal some of the fashion tips. Loose, flowy silhouettes, luxe fabrics like linen, and chic tailoring like shirt dresses are great ways to capture the spirit of quiet luxury without the price tag. A bonus is these timeless pieces are also guaranteed to become wardrobe staples, which means they’re basically free, right?

Perfectly Preppy

We’re getting inspo from the men for this one and our red carpet kings Jacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan. We’re seeing less and less men turning up in regular suits for award seasons and press junkets (we love) and we’re also seeing some trends bouncing between menswear and womenswear.

While we’re sadly not back in the “Gossip Girl” style heyday yet, we did see some smatterings of preppiness across the menswear on the red carpets earlier this year and we’re seeing it filter through into our wardrobes. Collars, buttons, pinstripes and classic shapes are all little nods to preppy that are incredibly wearable. Even the Blair Waldorf headbands are sneaking back in – perfect to up the ante on any summer look.
