Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, Issa Rae and director Greta Gerwig have begun their intense promotional tour of Australia promoting the “Barbie” movie, which comes out next month.
On Thursday, the quartet hit Bondi Icebergs Dining and Bar, complete with an activation which turned the iconic Icebergs Pool into a promotion for the forthcoming film.
On Friday night, they will attend an event Westfield Pitt Street Mall in Sydney, ahead of the premiere later this month.
Robbie stars in the film as the titular Barbie, as does Rae, while Ferrera is Gloria. Ryan Gosling is one of the many Ken pairings.
There are high hopes for the film’s global box office performance off the back of an exhaustive promotional campaign and its tie in with the iconic Mattel dolls.
It’s previously been revealed that Mattel president and COO Richard Dickson flew to the movie’s London set at one point during production to argue with Gerwig and lead actor Robbie about one scene he believed was off-brand for the company. The director and her star convinced Dickson to keep the scene in the film by performing it for him live on set.
The film also caused a global paint shortage due to its extensive use of pink paint.
“Barbie” hits Australian cinemas on July 20 after the premiere in Sydney on July 17.
