Netflix has announced its limited series, “Thai Cave Rescue”, will hit the streaming platform on Sep. 22.

The release will come hot off the heels of Prime Video’s film “Thirteen Lives” which dramatises the same series of events, in which a Thai boys’ soccer team, the Wold Boars, became trapped deep in the Tham Luang cave during a massive downpour and subsequent flooding. A global effort was then launched to rescue the trapped team.

The Prime Video series has its global premiere on Aug. 5.

Netflix said its six-part series would be “the most authentic and expansive retelling yet of the Wild Boars’ story”.

“Thai Cave Rescue” is a Thai-international production, created by Michael Russell Gunn (“Billions” and “Designated Survivor”) and Dana Ledoux Miller (“Designated Survivor” and Narcos”). It’s directed by Baz Poonpiriya (“One for the Road” and “Bad Genius”) and Kevin Tanchareon (The Brothers Sun” and “The Book of Boba Fett”).

The duo also serve as executive producers alongside Jon M. Chu (“In the Heights” and “Crazy Rich Asians”) for Electric Somewhere, John Penotti (“Crazy Rich Asians”) for SK Global Entertainment, John Logan Pierson (“Spenser Confidential” and “Patriots Day”), Lance Johnson (“Troop Zero” and “The Equalizer”) and Tim Coddington (“Mulan” and “Crazy Rich Asians”).

Australian Rodger Corser stars as Dr. Richard “Harry” Harris, a role which is filled by Joel Edgerton in Prime Video’s “Thirteen Lives”.

The series also boasts an expansive Thai cast including Papangkorn ‘Beam’ Lerkchaleampote, Thaneth ‘Ek’ Warakulnukroh, Urassaya ‘Yaya’ Sperbund, Manatsanun ‘Donut’ Phanlerdwongsakul, Supakorn ‘Tok’ Kitsuwan and Bloom Varin.

Local Thai boys will play the Wild Boars team members.
