Ant Middleton has been revealed as the host of the Australian version of “Million Dollar Island“.
The show will be produced by Eureka Productions and will screen on Channel 7 and 7Plus in 2023.
The show will put 100 people on a remote desert island, all vying for the chance to win $1 million.
Each contestant starts the series with a bracelet worth $10,000. While they are on the island, they can gain and lose bracelets by competing in various games, and also receive bracelets from other contestants.
On the last day, when just a few contestants remain, players get their chance to cash in their bracelets in an “exciting test of nerves”, but they could still lose everything at the last minute.
Middleton may already be known to television audiences as the host of “SAS Australia”.
He said “Million Dollar Island” will be must-see television.
“Think “The Hunger Games” meets “Lost” – but not quite as brutal,” he said.
“This is a high-stakes challenge for regular, everyday Aussies. Literally anyone can apply. You don’t have to be the fittest or the strongest person to win big. Emotional intelligence and self-belief are key here. I can’t wait to see what the Aussie contestants have got, how well they know themselves and how far they’ll go to change their lives.”
Angus Ross, Seven’s chief content officer for entertainment programming, said Middleton is the perfect host for “Million Dollar Island”.
“He is smart, tough and a brilliant strategist, qualities that will be invaluable as he immerses himself in the game play in what promises to be the most engaging and fascinating new series Australia has seen in a long time,” he said.
“Million Dollar Island” is currently searching for contestants.
