“Days Like These With Diesel” will kick off on ABC TV Plus and ABC iView this week.
The documentary will feature 12 weekly episodes which will revisit some of Australia’s most seminal concerts and uncover the intriguing stories behind them.
The series will be hosted and narrated by musician Mark Lizotte, aka Diesel.
“Days Like These With Diesel” kicks off at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4 looking back on Jet’s performance at The Forum in 2004.
The following episodes throughout May and June will explore Baby Animals’ 25th Anniversary in 2016, Hunters & Collectors at Selina’s in 1998, The Angels at Narara in 1983, Diesel himself at The Metro in 2004, Rose Tattoo at Boggo Road Jail in 1993 and Jimmy Barnes at The Opera House in 2009.
Episodes eight to 12 – featuring Eurogliders, Archie Roach, Ice House, Troy Cassar-Daley and Cold Chisel, will screen later in the year.
“Days Like These With Diesel” was co-produced by Beyond Entertainment with Mushroom Group’s Bloodlines Music.
Warren Costello is creator and executive producer alongside fellow EP Dean McLachlan.
Costello stepped down from Mushroom Group in September last year to focus on his health and spend time with his family.
Mushroom group said “Days Like These With Diesel” features a roll-call of ‘who’s who’ in Australian music.
“Through Mark’s exceptional understanding of songwriting, performance and music history combined with a healthy dose of curiosity, irreverence and wit, viewers are transported on a memorable journey of musical discovery,” publicity for the show said.
“They’ll get to re-live amazing concerts – almost in their entirety – and hear recollections from people who were there, including the fascinating behind-the-scenes circumstances that combined to create these special nights.”
Diesel said the show had been an absolute delight and an honour to host.
“The series brings together some of the most quintessential Australian bands from the past few decades, that help define our nation’s recent music past, and celebrates important moments in their concert history.”
ABC TV Plus is a digital multi-channel and was previously known as ABC2 and then ABC Comedy.
