“True Spirit” will hit Netflix on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

In keeping with Netflix’s recent strategy of releasing some of its larger titles for a limited cinematic run, the film will also hit select theatres from Jan. 26.

The film is based on the true story of Jessica Watson, played by Teagan Croft (“Titans”), who set out to be the youngest person to sail solo non-stop around the world in 2009 when she was just 16.

Josh Lawson (“Mortal Combat”) and Anna Paquin (“True Blood”) star as Watson’s parents, while her sailing coach and mentor Ben Bryant will be played by Cliff Curtis (“Avatar: The Way of Water”). It will also star Bridget Webb (“The Second”), Vivien Turner (“How to Stay Married”), Stacy Clausen (“Fires”) and Todd Lasance (“Home and Away”).

“True Spirit” was directed by Sarah Spillane (“Around the Block”), who also wrote alongside Rebecca Banner and Cathy Randall. Debra Martin Chase, Susan Cartsonis and Andrew Fraser serve as producers.

Locally, Netflix employed a similar release strategy for the Daniel Craig-fronted “Knives Out: A Glass Onion Mystery”. The follow up to “Knives Out” had a special preview run in select Australian and New Zealand cinemas before its global Netflix premiere on Dec. 23.
