A new drama thriller starring Charlie Hunnam is one of the new titles heading to Apple TV+ this October.
On October 14th, “Shantaram” hits the streaming platform. Based on the novel of the same name by Gregory David Roberts (the writer drew on his own life for inspiration), the story follows Lin (Hunnam), an Australian bank robber who flees the country to India in the 1980s.
While in Bombay, he’ll do whatever it takes to find redemption, even if it means allowing his troubled past to creep back into his present. Hunnam isn’t the only notable name involved in the series, with acclaimed Australian director Justin Kurzel, fresh off the well-received psychological drama film “Nitram”, directing several episodes.
After receiving its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, “Raymond & Ray” arrives on Apple TV+ on October 21st. The comedy-drama stars Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor as the two titular brothers who reunite at the funeral of their father, with whom both had a fraught relationship.
The film is directed by Rodrigo García, who previously worked with McGregor on 2015’s “Last Days in the Desert”, in which the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” actor swapped one set of robes and dusty desert for another to star as Jesus.
Judging by early reviews, the chemistry of McGregor and Hawke could carry the film. “When watching Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke in “Raymond & Ray”, so comfortably and authentically playing off each other as a pair of half-brothers who have been emotionally messed up by their late father, it’s almost impossible to believe they’ve never worked together before, let alone aren’t related in some way,” The Hollywood Reporter noted.
