Screen Australia has announced which online projects will benefit from its latest $2 million funding offering.
In total, nine online projects will split the funding.
One such recipient will be Season 2 of ABC’s children’s animation “Ginger and the Vegesaurs“, which will create 20 five-minute episodes for ABC Kids and ABC iView.
Season 4 of TikTok rom-com “The Formal” will also use funding to help produce six new five-minute episodes. The queer rom-com has already received over 8 million views.
“No offence” – about First Nations’ ‘bad’ words’ – will also make six six-minute episodes for ABC’s social media channels and iView. The factual comedy series is hosted and co-written by comedian Gabriel Willie, known on YouTube as Bush Tucker Bunjie.
A full list of the recipients can be found here.
Lee Naimo, head of online for Screen Australia, said we’re seeing a golden age of online content production in Australia.
“We are excited to fund such a variety of projects with boundary-pushing documentaries, smart and original dramas and comedies as well as a children’s animated series. We’d like to see even more children’s content coming through for online as it’s becoming more and more an important medium to reach young viewers.
“It’s great to see alumni from our Skip Ahead initiative with Google further expanding their careers and creating distinctive content, with Gabriel Willie moving into documentary on “No Offence” and the team behind “Small Footprint” now producing “Wonderful Waste”. We’re also pleased to support returning series of “The Formal” and “Flunk”, as we have been impressed to see both teams build highly engaged fanbases with their authentic Australian LGBTQI+ stories.”
