Viewers have been given a first look at Seven’s upcoming sketch comedy show “We Interrupt This Broadcast”.

The Helium production will skewer multiple television shows including Seven’s own “MKR” and “SAS Australia”, as well as reality shows from competitors such as Nine’s “Love Island” and Network 10’s “The Bachelor”. Global smash hits including Netflix’s “Stranger Things” will also be subjected to sketches.

Seven said it would be “the biggest new comedy in decades”, citing “Full Frontal” (which ran from 1993 to 1997 and helped launch the television careers of Eric Bana, Shaun Micallef, Kitty Flannagan, Julia Morris and Denise Scott) and “Fast Forward” (which ran from 1989 to 1992 with the likes of Jane Turner, Magda Szubanski, Ernie Dingo, Steve Vizard, Gina Riley and Glenn Robbins).

“We Interrupt This Broadcast”, meanwhile, will feature Christie Whelan Browne, Bridie Connell, Michelle Braiser, Adele Vuko, Duncan Fellows, Greg Larsen, Ben Russell and Bjorn Stewart. Seven said celebrated actors and seasoned comedians would support the ensemble cast throughout the series.

Seven added that “nothing is off limits” in the show, which will reboot “a long-standing and never-forgotten Australian tradition: taking the piss out of everything, including ourselves”.

“With our televisions, computers and phones creating the white noise we now call content, there’s no shortage of stuff for this irreverent, accessible and occasionally absurd series to lampoon,” publicity for the show said.
