MTV has released the 2022 MTV VMA nominations, with Aussie The Kid Laroi receiving nods in three separate categories.
The singer and rapper, who is signed with Sony Music in Australia and Columbia Records in the US, is up for his collaboration with Justin Bieber, “Stay” in the Best Collaboration category.
That same collaboration is up for Best Visual Effects in its music video.
Most notably, “Stay” is also up for the MTV VMA for Song of the Year.
In this category, Laroi faces off agains Adele’s “Easy on Me”, Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever”, Doja Cat’s “Woman”, PNAU’s “Cold Heart” remix with Elton John and Dua Lipa, and Lizzo’s “About Damn Time”.
The MTV VMAs will take place on Aug. 28 at New Jersey’s Prudential Center in Newark.
In addition to Laroi’s success in the nominations list, rappers Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X each scored seven nominations.
Five of Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow’s nominations come from their smash duet “Industry Baby”.
Not far behind the trio is Harry Styles and Doja Cat, who each boast six nominations.
The key award of the night, the Video of the Year, has seven nominees: Doja Cat for “Woman”, Drake (feat. Future, Young Thug) for “Way 2 Sexy”, Ed Sheeran for “Shivers”, Harry Styles for “As It Was”, Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow for “Industry Baby”, Olivia Rodrigo for “Brutal” and Taylor Swift for the 10-minute version of “All Too Well”.
