Australians can now turn to ChatGPT to plan their next trip to the movies, with Event Cinemas becoming the country’s first cinema chain to launch an app within the AI platform.
The new integration allows users to discover films, find screening times and book tickets through ChatGPT, bringing the process into a single conversation.
The launch follows EVT Hotels & Resorts becoming the first hotel group in Australia and New Zealand to introduce an app within ChatGPT, as parent company EVT expands its use of AI-powered services.
The move also reflects a broader push to position ChatGPT as a starting point for entertainment and leisure bookings, although it remains to be seen how readily consumers embrace the technology.
Andrew Turner, EVT group general manager of technology and digital, said the launch reflects a shift in how people are planning their outings. “More and more people are turning to AI-powered conversations to plan their next outing,” he said.
“We want Event Cinemas to be the easiest cinema to find and to book within those experiences. Being first in Australia reflects our focus on adapting to changing customer behaviours and making the path from deciding on a film to sitting in the cinema as simple as possible.”
