Rose Byrne and Jenna Ortega will star in Mary Bronstein’s “Nasty.” The project, which will be released by Warner Bros.’ new indie label Clockwork, is a sports drama.  It follows an athlete who is battling for a spot on the Olympic gymnastics team and who recognizes that her greatest opponent is her coach.

The film reunites Byrne and Bronstein, who previously collaborated on “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” which earned an Oscar nomination for Byrne. “Nasty” was featured on the Blacklist, an annual compendium of the best unproduced screenplays, and was written by Isabella Jarosz. It marks her first script sale.

Production on “Nasty” will begin this fall. LuckyChap, the producer of “Barbie” and “Saltburn,” and Ortega are producing the film.

Byrne’s credits include “Bridesmaids,” “Spy,” and “Neighbors.” She earned Emmy nominations for “Damages” and also appeared in the miniseries “Mrs. America” and led the Apple TV series “Physical” and “Platonic.” She also earned a Tony nomination for her performance in the revival of Noël Coward’s “Fallen Angels.”

Ortega is best known for her work in Netflix’s “Wednesday.” On screen, she starred in “Scream” and “Scream VI.” She also starred in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” and will appear in this fall’s “Klara and the Sun,” an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel that will be directed by Taika Waititi.

Clockwork was launched this year and will be run by former Neon CMO Christian Parkes. It has lined up some splashy projects, including “The Brigands of Rattlecreek,” a western with Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal and Tang Wei that will be directed by Park Chan-Wook, and Sean Baker’s “Anora” follow-up “Ti Amo!”

Bronstein is repped by CAA, attorney David Krintzman, and 42West. Jarosz is repped by CAA, Untitled, and Ziffren. Ortega is repped by CAA, Viewpoint, and Jeff Hynick at Jackoway Austen. Byrne is repped by CAA, RGM Artists, and Narrative. LuckyChap is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360, Narrative, and attorney Jeff Bernstein.
