Hypnotism and improv, it’s a combination that you’ve likely not considered as a theme for a stage show, but it’s sold out stages across the United States and Canada, and now it’s headed to Australia. This is “HYPROV”, and the “Yes, It’s Real” tour.
This bizarre production is the brainchild of Colin Mochrie, one of improv’s all-time greats, as seen on the classic Channel 4 series “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, and master hypnotist Asad Mecci. The 90-minute show starts with Mecci selecting 20 volunteers to be hypnotised, the most responsive will remain on-stage for the duration of the performance.
Guided by two highly experienced showmen, the performance will take everything it needs from the uninhibited minds of both the volunteers and the audience, making each show as unpredictable as it is original.

This tour marks the show’s tenth season, and it’s found a natural home in residencies Off-Broadway and in Las Vegas. The show has set tour dates for Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Auckland, Adelaide and Perth from April 16 – including spots at the Brisbane Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival and Perth Comedy Festival during the run.
Colin Mochrie expressed his excitement to visit Australia and New Zealand, saying “I’m excited to head back to Australia and New Zealand, two of my favorite places to perform. The audiences there are sharp, funny, and just unpredictable enough to make them perfect for HYPROV. Asad hypnotises them, I improvise with them… what could possibly go wrong? I guess we will find out.”
Asad Mecci added, “Nothing is pre-arranged with the volunteers. What you see is what you get. The show is raw, authentic, and completely real. That’s why we called this tour Yes, It’s Real and every night is a comedy high-wire act without a net. I’m so excited to witness what Australia and New Zealand have in store for us.”
