Seth Meyers has fired back at Donald Trump after the president called him “the least talented person to ‘perform’ live in the history of television” on Truth Social.
Trump went on about how Meyers “talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers” on his late-night show, which made the host “a truly deranged lunatic.”
“You can say I’m untalented, you can say I’m deranged, but I’m not the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers! You’re the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers!” Meyers said on Monday’s episode of NBC’s “Late Night.”
Meyers then played a montage of clips of Trump talking about these catapults dating back more than six years. In one clip from 2019, Trump said the word “catapult” eight times in one speech.
“Until you said something, I didn’t even know aircraft carriers had catapults!” Meyers said with a smile. “I’m not the talk-about-catapult guy. Just ask my friends. Oh, uh, friends are… how would I describe this to you? They’re like people who enjoy spending time with you independent of financial and legal favors you can grant them.”
In his Truth Social post over the weekend, Trump falsely suggested that Meyers talks “100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL.” Meyers replied: “You can say whatever you want about me. That is your First Amendment right, which I have too, right? We all have it, right?”
In his “A Closer Look” segment, Meyers joked about Trump’s renovation of the bathroom in the White House’s Lincoln Bedroom. Trump has posted repeatedly about the renovation — including six times in one day — amid the government shutdown.

Wrapping up the segment, Meyers said, “I say this with sincerity: I don’t want to talk about catapults. I don’t want to talk about bathrooms. And I’m realizing that I’m starting to sound like a deranged lunatic, but that’s what you do to us. You make us talk about what you’re talking about and then we all sound crazy.”
He continued, “What we should be talking about instead is the government shutdown you’re not solving, or the food assistance you refuse to fund. Working families are struggling while you renovate your bathroom and you build your ballroom.”
Meyers then said, “And that’s why your approval ratings are in the…” before cutting to a clip of Trump shouting “toilet!”
