Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning will star in a legal thriller series from A24 titled “Discretion.”
The show is based on a yet-to-be-published short story by “The Husbands” and “Whisper at Work” author Chandler Baker, who will adapt her own work for the small screen. A24 acquired the series rights to “Discretion” in what the company calls a “highly competitive situation.”
Little is known about “Discretion” other than it takes place in Dallas and is inspired by Baker’s experience working as a corporate attorney. She plans to develop the story into an ongoing series and will executive produce alongside Susannah Grant (“Unbelievable,” “Erin Brockovich”). Executive producers also include Fanning and her Lewellen Pictures partners Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward; Kidman and Per Saari under their Blossom Films banner; Baker; Grant; Jordan Cerf; and Joe Hipps under his Cut To banner at A24.
Baker is currently adapting her novel “The Husbands” for Amazon MGM and Plan B with Kristen Wiig attached to star and produce. Her first feature film, “Oh. What. Fun.,” co-written with Michael Showalter and based on her short story of the same name, will premiere over the holiday season on Amazon Prime. And she also has a TV adaptation of her novel “Cutting Teeth” in the works.
Fanning and Kidman have previously starred in films together, including 2017’s “The Beguiled” and “How to Talk to Girls at Parties,” which was distributed in the U.S. by A24. Kidman recently led the A24 sex triller “Babygirl” and starred in the Netflix miniseries “The Perfect Couple.” Fanning is hot off her role in the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” and also stars in the upcoming Oscar contender “Sentimental Value,” from Joachim Trier.
Baker is represented by CAA, Writers House, Linden and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Kidman is repped by CAA, Media Talent Group and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Fanning is represented by UTA, TFC Management and Hansen Jacobsen. Grant is represented by UTA and Adam Berkowitz of Lenore Entertainment Group.
