New Zealand comedian, producer and commentator Bec Sandys has officially joined Radio Hauraki as the station’s new daytime host, New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) confirmed this week.
Sandys isn’t a stranger to Radio Hauraki listeners. She has filled in over summer, appeared regularly on weekends, and is well known to sports fans as part of The Alternative Commentary Collective’s cricket coverage. Beyond radio, she’s built a career spanning comedy, events production and creative media projects, bringing a reputation for sharp wit and a natural ability to connect with audiences.
Radio Hauraki content director Todd Campbell said Sandys was the perfect fit for the brand. “Bec embodies everything Hauraki stands for – she’s down to earth, sometimes irreverent and never takes herself too seriously. Her sense of humour and passion for great music make her the perfect fit for Hauraki – we’re sure our loyal listeners will love to hear she’s coming on board,” he said.
For Sandys, the appointment is something of a full-circle moment. “I’m stoked to be joining the Radio Hauraki whānau fulltime. I’ve been a listener for more than two decades, so stepping into the role of day announcer really is a dream come true. This station has a strong legacy and I can’t wait to bring my own energy to the mix and connect with listeners right across New Zealand,” she said.
Sandys will initially broadcast from Christchurch, extending the station’s South Island presence before relocating to Auckland later this year.
