Netflix’s “Wednesday” cast descended on Sydney today, transforming Cockatoo Island/Wareamah into a gothic playground for fans and press from across Asia and Oceania.

The Outcast Assembly brought together Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams), Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), executive producer Tim Burton, and co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. But it was Gwendoline Christie who delivered the biggest surprise of the day, confirming that her character, Larissa Weems, will return in Part Two of Season 2, despite her dramatic death in the first season.

The event was streamed live on Instagram and TikTok across Netflix’s regional accounts, pulling in more than 55 million viewers worldwide. Fans from Australia, New Zealand, India, the Philippines and beyond gathered for a glimpse of the show’s cast and creators, as Cockatoo Island was reimagined with cinematic gothic flair.

The Sydney stop is part of Wednesday’s Global Doom Tour, a whirlwind promotional run that will culminate in a fan experience on August 16th. The new season, split into two parts, promises “gothic wit, twisted mysteries, and deadpan mischief,” with Part One already streaming and Part Two set to premiere September 3rd.

Since its debut in 2022, “Wednesday” has grown into a full-blown cultural juggernaut. Ortega’s performance sparked a global fandom that spilled beyond the screen: fashion and makeup trends surged, The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck” returned to charts, and Ortega’s now-iconic dance sequence inspired millions of TikTok recreations to Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary”. Gaga herself later joined the cast in a mystery role for Season 2.

The series has racked up 50 award nominations, including Emmys, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards, and remains Netflix’s most popular English-language show of all time. With new cast members like Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, and Noah Taylor joining the franchise this season, Christie’s surprise resurrection and the news they have already renewed for a third season, Wednesday’s reign over the dark side of pop culture shows no sign of dimming.

“Wednesday” Season 2 Part One is streaming now on Netflix. Season 2 Part Two continues on September 3rd.
