9News has claimed a definitive victory in the 2025 television ratings year, securing wins across the 5 City Metro market and all East Coast capitals.

The network’s 6.00pm bulletin has dominated Australia’s three largest markets—Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane—winning every single week of the 21-week official ratings survey period.

In addition to maintaining its stronghold in the eastern states, 9News has recorded significant audience growth in other major markets. The 6pm bulletin has seen impressive year-on-year increases of 16.4% in Adelaide and 20.5% in Perth, demonstrating the network’s growing influence across the entire country.

The ratings victory reflects the substantial trust viewers place in 9News for delivering comprehensive and reliable news coverage. Total TV Average Audience figures for the 2025 Survey Year show 9News commanding 894,000 viewers across the 5 City Metro, representing an 11.8% increase compared to the previous year.

Breaking down the numbers by city, 9News attracted 250,000 viewers in Sydney (up 8.9% year-on-year), 284,000 in Melbourne (up 6.1%), and 206,000 in Brisbane (up a remarkable 19.3%).

By comparison, rival 7News recorded a total of 845,000 viewers across the 5 City Metro (up 5.0% year-on-year), with 194,000 viewers in Sydney (up 2.8%), 257,000 in Melbourne (up 13.3%), and 166,000 in Brisbane (up just 0.5%).
