Comic Robby Hoffman is staying booked and busy, joining the previously announced untitled Steve Carell comedy from Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses as a recurring guest star. Hoffman emerged as a scene-stealer this season with appearances on Max’s “Hacks” and the FX limited series “Dying for Sex.” This will be in addition to writing, executive producing and starring in her comedy series “Unentitled,” currently in development at HBO.

Hoffman began her career as a writer on shows like PBS’ “Odd Squad,” which won her a Daytime Emmy Award, as well as the CBC’s “Workin’ Moms” and TruTV’s “The Chris Gethard Show.” She also hosts the podcast “Too Far with Robby Hoffman.” She is repped by UTA, Jordan Tilzer at El Centro Management and Schreck Rose.

Led by Carell, the HBO series also stars Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley and Lauren Tsai. The series logline calls the show “a comedy set on a college campus centering on an author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Clive).” Lawrence is the writer-producer behind such hits as “Ted Lasso,” “Shrinking” and “Scrubs,” the latter of which Tarses was a co-EP on (and is about to be revived). In addition, Tarses boasts writer and producer credits on “The Goldbergs” and the “Mad About You” reboot.

The comedy is executive produced by Lawrence, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer for Doozer, Tarses, Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King and Carell. David Hyman serves as co-executive producer. The studio is Warner Bros. Television, where both Doozer and Tarses are under overall deals.
