“Euphoria” Season 3 is still on track, according to HBOI/Max boss Casey Bloys. HBO had previously announced that Season 3 would at long last go into production in January 2025, almost exactly three years after the premiere of Season 2, and according to Bloys, that is still the case.
“We are shooting ‘Euphoria,’” he told reporters on Tuesday at an HBO/Max press event.” I think we have a start date, mid to late January. Nothing’s changed. Somebody said something online, and then this whole thing started. We are shooting the season. I have read the scripts. We’re happy. We’re moving ahead. All of the actors. Is the show.”
Recently, several key cast members have lined up other major roles that would seemingly conflict with the announced “Euphoria” production schedule.
It was just announced that Zendaya would be joining Christopher Nolan’s new film, which is believed to begin shooting in early 2025. Zendaya could also be reprising her role as MJ in “Spider-Man 4,” which is also shooting in 2025. Meanwhile, Jacob Elordi is going to star in Emerald Fennel’s take on “Wuthering Heights” with Margot Robbie, which will be shot in 2025 in the U.K.
“I know the show gets a lot of attention now because, you know, it has created some genuine movie stars, and they have various projects that are working on, but we are shooting this season, so nothing has changed,” Bloys added. “It’s eight episodes.”
The main cast of “Euphoria” includes Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Storm Reid, Alexa Demie, and Eric Dane. Angus Cloud, who broke out in his role as Fezco, died at age 25 in July 2023. Meanwhile, some cast members have already indicated they would not be returning to the show for another season, such as Barbie Ferreira.
As Variety previously reported, series creator Sam Levinson had gone to HBO in late 2023 and early 2024 with his ideas for the third season that included a five-year time jump as well as potential story arcs for Rue (Zendaya) like her working as a private investigator. HBO ultimately decided to press pause on the series until it could be brought creatively in line with the previous two seasons.
In addition to stellar ratings, “Euphoria” proved to be a strong awards contender for HBO. The series has received 25 Emmy nominations, with nine wins. Among the wins are two for Zendaya for best actress in a drama and one for Colman Domingo for best guest actor in a drama. Levinson also won a DGA award for the Season 2 episode “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird.”
Zendaya is also an executive producer on “Euphoria,” while Levinson is also the executive producer and director. Ravi Nandan, Drake, Adel “Future” Nur, Will Greenfield, Ashley Levinson, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin, and Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein also executive produce. Kevin Turen was also an executive producer on the series, but he died at age 44 in November 2023.
