Marvel’s upcoming “WandaVision” spinoff series “Agatha” is going to be “really scary,” at least according to one top level studio executive. Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios‘ head of streaming, television and animation, recently appeared on the “Official Marvel Podcast” (via The Playlist) and said “Agatha” will only be fun for so long until it starts scaring viewers.

“‘Agatha’ is really fun, but it’s really scary. And it gets quite dramatic,” Winderbaum teased. “She’s an amazing anti-hero. It lures you in with the fun of Halloween, and before you know it, you’re crying.”

“It’s a Marvel brand of scary. It’s a Halloween show,” he added. “There are deadly stakes in this series. It’s a fun ride, but it’s a dangerous one.”

Kathryn Hahn is leading the series and reprising her Emmy-nominated role of Agatha Harkness. Plot details for the show, debuting Sept. 18 on Disney+, remain under wraps. Hahn is joined in “Agatha” by Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn and Debra Jo Rupp. The series picks up after the events of “WandaVision,” in which Agatha Harkness (Hahn) was left powerless thanks to Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). “WandaVision” showrunner Jac Schaeffer is behind the spinoff.

Winderbaum also spoke briefly about the upcoming limited series “Daredevil: Born Again,” which features the full-fledged return of Charlie Cox after he had brief appearances in MCU projects such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Echo” and “She-Hulk.”

“These characters have matured. The universe is different than it was,” Winderbaum explained. “Things have changed. Society has changed. Matt [Murdock] and Wilson [Fisk] have changed, and their characters are going to collide in ways we’ve never seen before. It’s no longer enough to try to murder each other. There’s a whole game of politics at play.”
