Binge has announced a new lineup of stars who are joining star Leah Purcell for the new season of its original drama series “High Country: What Lies Beneath”. Said new faces for the eight-part season are Brendan Cowell (“Avatar: Fire and Ash,” “Plum”), Ryan Corr (“Kangaroo,” “House of the Dragon”) and Nadine Garner (“Savage River,” “The Doctor Blake Mysteries”).
They join Leah Purcell (“Wentworth,” “The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson”) and her fellow returning stars Ian McElhinney (“Game of Thrones,” “Derry Girls”), Sara Wiseman (“Watching You,” “Territory”), and Aaron Pedersen (“Jack Irish,” “Mystery Road”).
The first season of “High Country” was a standout debut for Binge in 2024, becoming the most-streamed series on the platform for two months, while gaining traction with international audiences via BBC 1 in the UK and Hulu in the US. Filming for season two is underway now on location in the Victorian Alps.
Purcell, who is also an executive producer on the series, said “I’m absolutely thrilled to be back with the team for Season 2 of High Country! I can’t wait to bring this much-anticipated new chapter to audiences around the world. With fresh storylines cleverly crafted, superb new talent joining the cast, and haunting questions finally answered — what more could you want from a second season?”
New cast member Brendan Cowell, fresh off his supporting role in the reigning global box office titan “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, said “You never miss a chance to mix it with the great Leah Purcell. And the reach High Country has achieved across the world is a credit to the team. The show really knows itself and I can’t wait to be a part of the Aussie gothicness.”
“High Country” is created by Marcia Gardner and John Riley, directed by Lucy Gaffy and Ben Lucas and written by John Ridley, Kim Wilson, Marcia Gardner and Beck Cole. Purcell is joined in producer duties by fellow Executive Producers and Producers Jo Porter, Rachel Gardner, John Ridley and Angie Fielder. Lana Greenhalgh and Penny Win serve as Executive Producers for the Foxtel Group.
